Mechanical Drafter

Position Overview:

The Mechanical Drafter is primarily responsible for creating accurate technical drawings and plans for mechanical devices, machines, and systems. In this role, you will work closely with the engineering team to develop detailed drawings that are used in the design and production of new products. You will also maintain current products by making engineering changes to improve quality or manufacturing processes. Along with this, you will occasionally assist the manufacturing department when production issues occur.

Responsibilities:

Must be able to:

  • Review and interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and other design documents
  • Transform initial rough product designs or sketches into working models and documents
  • Utilize knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings
  • Use CAD software to create and modify 3D models of mechanical components and assemblies
  • Develop detailed construction and assembly drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and materials
  • Maintain relationships of models and drawing files in an organized fashion
  • Create and check assembly layouts and detail part drawings for legacy programs
  • Process and update Engineering Change Requests in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with engineers and other team members to develop design solutions
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all design work
  • Ensure that all drawings and plans meet industry standards and regulations
  • Provide technical support and guidance to other team members as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Minimum/Essential Qualifications:

  • 2-year Mechanical Drafting Degree or relevant work experience
  • Working knowledge of 3D modeling software
  • Knowledge and experience using MS Office and the ability to learn internal business related software systems
  • Familiar with manufacturing methods and procedures, along with hardware and software used for manufacturing and automation
  • Solid understanding of product design and mechanical engineering principles
  • Knowledge of tool design and fabrication methods
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate attention to quality, timeliness, and awareness of budget constraints
  • Flexible and able to adapt to change
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, strong sense of responsibility and self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Excellent technical communication skills to liaise with engineers, team members, manufacturing personnel, and others involved in the design and implementation process
  • Read and interpret engineering specifications along with excellent math skills
  • Promote and follow all company safety guidelines and initiatives

Preferred skills and Experience:

  • CAD certification plus 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience using SolidWorks
  • Assembly and/or welding experience helpful
  • Experience using Faro
