Power Consumption - Furnaces and Components

APPLIES TO: All Models
Common Component Power Consumption

Fan
  • Continuous Run Draw: 1.7 Amps
  • Startup Draw: 3.5 Amps max. for a second or until spinning
Solenoid
  • Max Draw: 0.62 Amps x 3 Solenoids = up to 1.8 Amps at 120VAC
Stepper Motor
  • Draw: Up to 1.0 amps at 24VDC, 24W
Circulators/Pumps
  • 20-58 Pump Draw: .71 Amps max., Operating Power Range 8.4 - 38W
  • 20-78 Pump Draw: 1.25 Amps max., Operating Power Range 2 - 68W
  • VR1816 Pump Draw: 0.54 Amps max., Operating Power Range 4W - 44W
  • VT2218 Pump Draw: 0.67 Amps max., Operating Power Range 9W - 58W
  • 0015E Pump: 120V, 60 Hz Single Phase, Operating Power Range 4W - 44W, Max. Amp Rating: 0.54
  • 007 Pump Draw: 0.76 Amps continuous
  • 009 Pump Draw: 1.4 Amps

Notes on Individual Furnaces

  • Classic Edge HDX - with everything running (i.e., blower fan, stepper motors, light, FireStar controller) - power consumption at 120VAC is 2.18 Amps or 261 Watts (with a small buffer added in, 300 Watts is a good approximation). Note that this does not include pump(s) as these vary. In idle mode, the Classic Edge HDX uses 0.29 Amps. When running with both stepper motors operating (no lights on, minus the pump), it uses 1.97 Amps.
  • Classic Edge HD draws 0.29 Amps while idling and less than 2 Amps while working in demand mode. An average home might have the furnace working in demand mode for 8 – 10 hours a day in cold weather.
  • Classic Edge HD - The optional 24V Combustion Fan Kit (p/n 2001093) includes new power supply, 19-106VDC to 24VDC and 24VDC to 5VDC
  • Classic Edge with solenoids when operating in demand mode, will consume approximately 3.6 Amps (432 Watts).
  • Maxim - Approximate power consumption
    • On HIGH heat setting, no ignition, and no augers running, it consumes 0.6 Amps
    • On HIGH, no ignition, BOTH augers running, it consumes 1.7 Amps
    • On MEDIUM, ONE ignitor on and BOTH augers running, it consumes 5.7 Amps
    • When both ignitors are running, in addition to the augers, when running in MEDIUM, it would consume approximately 11 Amps. In corn mode, when both ignitors are on and the fan is on high, with both augers operating, it would be approximately 12 Amps

Warning

These procedures should be performed by a qualified individual and in accordance with any and all federal, state/provincial and local codes and regulations. When performing work on an appliance, observe all precautions in the literature, tags and labels attached to the appliance and other safety precautions that may apply. When working with electricity and electrical components, failure to follow precautions could result in property damage, personal injury or death.

WARNING indicates the presence of a hazard which can cause severe personal injury or death to an operator or bystander, or substantial property damage if ignored.

Do not proceed without testing the power is disconnected. Make sure the power cannot be reconnected while working with electrical components.
